2018 Recycle Event Success

2018 Recycle Event Success

On April 21, 2018 the Community Development Department held another successful Recycle Event. Over 300 vehicles come through bringing scrap tires, batteries, scrap metals, televisions, computers, etc.
75,600 pounds of scrap metal were unloaded by city staff, which included many refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers and air conditioners. With the help of the Wenatchee Valley College Technology Club and Wenatchee Valley Technical Skills Center Automotive Technology, citizens dropped off approximately 3,500 tires. Many tires still had rims which had to be removed prior to loading in trailers for recycling. We had to stop accepting tires with rims by 10:30 AM due to the large volume. Three tire machines removed rims all day, two of these are borrowed from Les Schwab Tires each year.
Salvation Army staff accepted four truckloads of televisions, computers, laptops, monitors and stereo equipment for recycling as well.
Stemilt Organic Recycling Center accepted organic waste at their facility located at 1465 S. Wenatchee Avenue from City of Wenatchee residents at no charge the day of the recycle event.

Thank you to all the partners in this event:
