Careers After School - First Responders

A mock car crash scene will be the center of the Careers After School: First Responders event on Thursday, May 9, 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Eastmont Community Church,783 4th St. NE East Wenatchee.

Police, fire, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), dispatchers and other emergency medical services professionals respond to emergency situations such as heart attacks, head injuries, car accidents, fires, and crime scenes. They do what is necessary to stabilize and transport patients via an ambulance or by helicopter to a hospital, if needed, for continued care from a physician. At this unique Careers After School (CAS) event, attendees will find themselves in the center of a mock car crash and will witness these first responders in their element.

Agency partners from Lifeline Ambulance, Life Flight, East Wenatchee Police Department, RiverCom 911, Douglas County Fire #2 and Chelan County Coroner will all play a part in responding to the simulated crash scene and upon completion, will discuss skills and training needed in their various careers with attendees.

Students from Wenatchee High School’s stagecraft class will serve as mock crash victims, complete with artificial injuries created through the application of “moulage” makeup, a technique used by emergency response teams, medical and military personnel and medical students for disaster training scenarios training.

CAS events are free and open to 6-12 grade students, parents, and educators. Light snacks and refreshments included. Space is limited so please RSVP to wenatchee.org/careers-after-school or info@wenatchee.org

The purpose of CAS is to help students and their support networks discover occupations and training pathways through enriching career-connected learning events held on-site at local businesses. During CAS business and industry partners provide valuable information, hands-on activities and connections to better equip our youth as they make plans for the future.
