Women Rule the World at GWATA 's Entrepreneurial Panel

GWATA will host a panel of entrepreneurs on July 24 at the Confluence Technology Center. The title of this panel is “Women Rule the World” and features four entrepreneurs who represent different industries in North Central Washington.

Women Rule the World is presented by Numerica Credit Union and will be moderated by Numerica Credit Union Business Development Officer, Jessica Clay. Additional support for this event comes from Wendy Dalpez of The Entrepreneur’s Source and Kathy Smithson from Smithson Insurance Services.

During Women Rule the World, panelists will engage in a lively discussion about their company history, share their entrepreneurial journey, discuss plans for the future, and give advice on lessons learned. Attendees are encouraged to participate in the conversation during the dedicated Q&A session at the end. The entrepreneurs featured on this panel include Julie Burdick, Tricia McCullough, Vicky Scharlau, and Jen Staat.

This is a great event for those who are interested in learning about entrepreneurs who are paving the path in North Central Washington. It will also be a panel that provides insight, inspiration, and ideas for existing business owners and professional service providers. Each panelist was asked to share an insight or background on their journey in advance:

Julie Burdick, Owner/Photographer, Julie Aynn Photography
“I would say that being an entrepreneur has always been part of my life. My parents owned a little cafe when I was elementary age, and I spent many hours there ‘working’ at the restaurant. I bought my first business, a video store, when I was 23 years old.”

Tricia McCullough, President, Augustedge
“If you want to become an entrepreneur, the first thing you need to consider is the business model you are considering. This is extremely important because all the cash and all the hard work will never make a poor business model work.”

Vicky Scharlau, President/CEO, 501 Consultants
“I started my path of entrepreneurship when I hit the proverbial glass ceiling. As I looked around for other employment options, I saw I had limited growth options.  So really, my only route at the time was to start my own business.”

Jen Staat, Salon and Spa Manager/Cosmetologist, Elements Salon & Spa
“Some advice for fellow women entrepreneurs: look forward, not back; own being a mother, if you chose to be one; don’t wait for evolution, just evolve; and dress for the paycheck you want, not the paycheck you have.”
