Coffee & Commerce - Paid Sick Leave Regulations
Come be part of the roundtable conversation! This month's topic: Mandatory Paid Sick Leave
In November 2016, Washington voters approved Initiative 1433, which increased the state minimum wage effective January 1, 2017; AND mandated paid sick leave for all employees effective January 1, 2018.
The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries has issued its preliminary draft regulations regarding the implementation and application of the new law.
This seminar will focus on how the new regulations potentially may impact employers, including (1) addressing how employers must accrue paid sick leave for all employees (including seasonal, temporary, and part time employees); (2) permissible uses of paid sick leave by employees; (3) employee's obligation to provide reasonable notice, along with an employer's ability to request verification; (4) rate of pay for sick leave and timing of payment for sick leave; (5) reinstatement of accrued paid sick leave upon rehire; (6) interaction of paid sick leave with Personal Time Off (PTO) programs; (7) employer notification and reporting to employees; and (8) use of shared leave and shift swapping options, along with other pertinent aspects of the new law.
