Washington State is growing! We have increased our membership by 25% this last year. We have a total of 11 chapters including our newest chapter that should be chartered by the time of this meeting. We have added 24 new members this year. We believe these new members were attracted to Questers by common interest in restoration of historic buildings. Several of our chapters joined in with other Preservation Groups to work on historical buildings. One group worked on the General George Pickett house. General Pickett was an officer in both the Confederate and the Union Armies -at different times, of course. Another restoration project was Wells House in Wenatchee. This house was also called “a cobble stone castle” and is on the National Historical Register. The house was built in 1909 by the man who also built the ditches that provided the water to the Wenatchee fruit growing area.
We honor Joy Walters who has been a Washington State Quester for 22 years and has been active in forming many of our state chapters. As members were recruited and chapters were formed she provided guidance by becoming an Associate Member of her primary chapter while becoming a member and serving as an officer in the new chapter. She has traveled near and far providing a variety of programs to many different chapters.
As a Past President of Washington State Questers, I Florence Robinson am pleased to introduce two of our newest members who are first time attendees to the International Convention and are here representing their chapters: Gloria Scott and Judy Dalton. (Pause)Gloria attended the class on Organizing a new chapter and Judy has taken the Treasurer’s class.
I believe members join Questers because they are invited! I challenge you to do the same.
