    Job Title: Aquatics Director                                                                Reports to: CEO

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the general direction of the Executive team, the Aquatics Director manages the aquatics department, which includes the operation of the pools, aquatics programs, staff and budget management; manage rentals and special events. This position plays a key part in the development, organization, and implementation of high quality, member-focused Y aquatic programs.
     
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill Y objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
    2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
    3. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
    4. Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
    5. Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, special events and rental groups. 
    6. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
    7. Develops and monitors program budget to meet or exceed fiscal objectives.
    8. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
    9. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
    10. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
     
    OTHER POSITION FUNCTIONS:
    1. Reviews, practices and make recommendations to improve safety procedures and practices.
    2. Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
    3. Responds to emergency situations.
    4. Performs other duties as assigned.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
    2. A minimum of three years of experience in an aquatics program, prefer two years of related experience as an aquatics director or coordinator.
    3. A Minimum of two years of experience managing staff.
    4. A Minimum of two years of experience in program development. 
    5. Minimum age of 21 and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report. 
    6. Current Certifications in CPR, AED, First Aid, AED, and Lifeguard (maybe acquired within first 30 days of hire). Prefer YMCA Lifeguard certification but willing to cross over. 
    7. Completion of YMCA program-specific and trainer certifications as Lifeguard Instructor and YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor. 
    8. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 
    • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling and bending.  Occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
    • Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard. 
    • Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.
    • Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
    • See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
